Save some time and gain some understanding of terminology,  and decide on the time of year, and style of your wedding - before you enter the bridal shops.  WeddingLinks.co links over 300 top wedding dress design houses, bridesmaid or flower girl dreses and tuxedo or suit designers.  We also link local bridal shops in the GLOBAL SEARCH Page leading to each area menu,

We continue to encourage you to NOT purchase a wedding dress, until you have determined your wedding site, your budget, and the style wedding you want.  We know the shops tell you to purchase, but understand you will not want to arrive down the aisle with a winter dress in the summer and/or an inappropriate dress for a church wedding, or to formal ....or not formal enough for the wedding you finally create.  

Once you create your budget, determine your style wedding, then consider shopping for your gowns.

1. Learn the names of the styles prior to shopping at a store so the stylist can fetch the correct styles for you.  This link will give you guidance  regarding:  
LENGTH, Short, Long, Knee Length, Tea Length, Mini and Assemetrical.  
STYLE,  Ball Gown,  A-Line, Princess,  Chapel Train, Trumpet,  Modified A-Line and Sheath styles.
FABRIC, Satin, Summer Satin, Lace, Tulle, Tafata, Silk, Chiffon, Embossed, See through can be very embarrassing, if it is see through to a "need to be covered area".

Most shop owners train their staff to understand body shapes and to be good listeners.  Sometimes a dress on a hangar looks awful, but put it on, and  WOW !

2. Please do not buy something online, or on sale, and expect another shop to FIT it for you.  You will need to find a local tailor or seamstress to help you with this.

3. Your body shape and size - please do not be insulted when the dress comes in a larger size. The store seamstress must have enough fabric to work with to complete your fittings.  You want a dress that is flattering.  Looking back at the puffy sleeves they put on Princess Diana is a pure example of what NOT to do to your body.  I loved the Princess, yet this gown was overdo!

4. Understand the difference between summer satin and heavy winter satin.  Lace gowns are very popular in the past five years and the trends will continue.  You can enjoy the videos of current designer bridal gown fashion videos HERE.

5. When you shop, take a friend you trust or your mom, all or one of your bridesmaids when you shop.  Sometimes the first gown  we try on - ends up being IT.  But we do recommend trying on several gowns.  

6.  If you are having your dress made.  Please go to a professional seamstress.  It is a lot of responsibility to hand a friend, or your mom, or your sister.  Just cutting into expensive fabric takes a lot of nerve.  I know, I have done it.

#1. Meeting & Greeting the Guest With Luxury: Everything from your personal website, save the date card, list of local hotels, maps to your event sites in the invitation to ample parking and good signage on where to go or adding transportation will lead to less-frazzled guests.

An Entry Host to direct the reception guests and  a water or ice tea service are especially appreciated on hot days. Depending on the venue, we see couples setting up a cocktail or wine bar ahead of the ceremony with music favorites being played. This provides an added luxury to greeting the guests. We also see couples providing a water service or bottled water just after the ceremony on hot days.

Making certain seniors and senior guests have someone assigned to pick them up and deliver adds to their luxury and welcome. Finding one's way in a region can be difficult. Very formal weddings often have a reception line. More casual methods are for the couple to go to each reception table and greet guests.

#2. Flowers & Decor & Lighting Enrich  Your Setting. Brides love garden settings with beautiful backdrops and environmental views. The ceremony aisle being spread with rose petals is a royal carpet treatment and focal point for the nuptials. Even a simple room may be enhanced with flowers on the aisle.

#3. Luxurious Ideas For Wedding Invitations: Invitations set the tone of the wedding. Very high style custom-made papers that include eco-friendly types with beautiful, hand–written calligraphy are available and add a special touch on wedding invitations. The gold leaf border (or a copper wax seal) might be enough trim. Create a personal monogram or watermark on the paper with your initials. The style chosen can be used as a unifying element for your invites, reply card, menu card, envelopes and ceremony programs. Conveying your theme or the wedding colors on all the paper products including your Thank You Notes will add that touch of luxury. Whatever design you choose, make it's eye-catching. Be sure to indicate if your wedding celebration is a black tie formal affair, or a themed wedding with costumes etc. and/or is cocktails and dinner following and/or any uniqueness. There are specialty services to assist with this and some brides have the invites addressed and mailed by the services with special stamps or hand canceling. When weddings are in major cities, the added touch of messenger delivery is a possibility.

We have seen:
Fabric boxes with the invitation set inside to be an outstanding delivery through mail or messenger. These may also be placed on the tables at the reception as an added display with your centerpieces.

Gold Rose Boxes with flowers and invitations being delivered at the same time.

Wine or champagne bottles sent by messenger with the invitation affixed as a label or attached in the envelope to the neck. Additional bottles can be your wedding favor - set on the tables for the guests to take home.

Boxes of candy or chocolates mailed with the invitation inside - shipped to guests.

What Brides Need To Know About Bridal Shows

Each January through March and August through October we see huge numbers of bridal shows - wedding shows and WeddingLinks.com personally has booths at approximately thirty a year.  While I believe these are great for exposure for businesses to brides, I believe there are many other ways for brides to shop for their venues and services. You can find links to shows on BridalShowInfo.com  in California, The USA and global show links throughout the world.

So please give us your input on attending a bridal expo....and I will outline my perspective below:

Pros
1. You gain many fresh ideas on design, colors, what new businesses are in the area, and meet face to face with business representatives and sometimes (not often) the owners of a business.
2. Brides and Grooms gain an understanding of the cost of a wedding in their region.
3. Some couples are at the beginning stages of planning and need a focus/pathway to getting the job done.
4. Many brides are seeking fashion ideas from the fashion show and many attend for the prize drawings.

Cons
1.  Not every budget is represented. So often a couple is not certain the funds they want to spend on a specific part of their wedding and do not meet at wedding shows the more affordable decision.
2.  The table drawings are often not a direct gift, but a gift with strings attached to do more business.
3.  Some shows are so busy/attended you only gain a piece of paper and no time to discuss how they do business, so you leave the show without the information you desired.
4. First impressions of a business are often not given by the actual owner.

Ease Your Bridal Research Strategy

It’s a “Given” - Brides surf the web when shopping for all their bridal needs. We all get busy reviewing designer gowns and styles of wedding dresses, tuxes and want to find our local shops. We explore hundreds of links to wedding venues.

We are driven to use the lunch hour at work and stay up until 1 or 2 am to surf.  So here are some tips to help get back to that perfect wedding dress you saw and find those exciting wedding venue, reception services you liked or honeymoon location. So between our work computer and home, we become “frazzled” when we cannot find the item we liked.  We have all signed on to so many websites we become deluged with e-mails. Even the professional Wedding Services ask you to sign in to enter their websites….

So here are a few helpful tips and I trust you will sign on to the blog and add your tips to the following:

1. Take out an e-mail address – specific to your wedding planning time and dump it after the wedding. This way your personal e- account can continue for your friends and family.
2. If you are going to sign up everywhere, use the same password
3. Find and use “Free Access Web Portals” where all your shopping can be completed from one or two geographical areas (menu).
4. Shopping for wedding locations can be difficult – find a website that shows the number of guests in the description, so you do not spend hours looking inside the websites for this information.
5. Look beyond the first two pages on your Search Engine searches – there are amazing companies.
6. Bookmark a web address you like or e-mail to your bridal e-mail so you can get back to it quickly.  Research is difficult enough without losing your favorites.

SETTING APPOINTMENTS WITH VENUES AND SERVICES

Planning a wedding can be very stressful.  This is a given. You are dealing with people who have amazing knowledge regarding their services and many have schooled themselves for years. They set time aside to listen to your requests, and then explain how they can create their part of your dream wedding and reception. 2. If you are not planning to show up for the appointment, give them a call, leave a message about whether you decided on someone else, or need to move the date and time. 3. Last minute Changes can be difficult.  To change flowers after the florist has gone to the market for your selections. Caterers who have to add more food, or less food, designs on decorations and table placement settings.  These all add up to stress between bride, groom and the service. 4. Go over your reception timing with person in charge. This could be your wedding planner, your dad or mom, your musicians or venue hostess.  This way things run smoother with a timeline. 5.  People forget verbal instructions. Make certain things are written down and given to attendants, services and groom.  Addresses with zip codes and delivery times are very important to your services and the attendants.  I have done a few "day-of"  weddings where after the rehearsal the attendants did not know where the rehearsal dinner was being held. Wow! Please understand when you sign a contract, there may be paragraphs regarding deposits. Read them carefully.  Please never sign an agreement the first day you meet someone.  Review their name and reputation prior to contracting.  There is so much information on the web today and a great deal of misinformation. When it comes to wedding planning you may want quick tips or elaborate details that can be gained from your pc with a webinar, a good book, or web articles.  It all takes time and an outstanding timeline, management skills and budget to see you through the process.

After having a fun discussion regarding wedding cakes with a friend, we came to the conclusion that there are many new ideas and ways to serve dessert at a reception. While wedding cakes are "truce centerpieces" to a reception, many brides like to bring refreshing ideas to their guests.

#1. Reception trends are growing for cupcake tiers, beautiful cookies and tiny fruit tarts. These are colorful and presented beautifully for wedding celebrations. 2015 Wedding Trends and TIPs On Best Ways To Utilize Them

We are seeing so many creative ideas from brides who want to save money on their wedding planning. Some work out very well and then they become a TREND while other ideas can be luke warm in the affects they have on a wedding day.  Join us on the Blog, we value your insight and input.

1. Having a Friend or Relative marry you. This has backfired for many a bride. We have seen the officiant faint, get sick, not say nice things, be silly or rude and forget to fill out the proper paper work to make it official - leaving couples un-married legally. There are non-denominational officiants, religious clergy, retired clergy, judges and men and women who are trained in creating personalized wedding services for couples at a modest price....best of all you will be legally married with the documents to prove it.

2. Doing your own wedding flowers. This can work very well if you have refrigeration to store a few days ahead, but lets face facts, our hands and finger nails really take a beating when working with table centerpieces, aisle decor and gazebo flowers and creating bouquets and corsages. Our hands and nails need to look nice with our gowns and for our photos.

3. Deciding to NOT hold a rehearsal prior to the wedding has seen increasing popularity. The friskiness of the wedding party and management of the wedding day can be smoothed out at a rehearsal of one hour or hour and a half. It has been proven statistically and through bridal surveys......That...Involved People feel less insecure on what they should do, and the bride and groom will sleep better the night before the wedding. It truly lowers your wedding stress.

4. Lack of ....Day-Of Management of a wedding can create higher bills by your event running overtime for your site and wedding services. Couples experience hassles - as people ask the bride and groom excess questions and sometimes accelerate arguments over settling bills properly at the event. Are Wedding Movies - The Same As Real Life Weddings??

Wedding Movies today emphasis complaints found in the wedding industry. The movie writer wants something funny or a disaster that occurred to ruin a wedding and will complete a good movie plot. Sometimes they mock tradition and the people involved to build the characters in the wedding planning. There are now TV shows aired weekly on wedding disasters. These concerns can dull the viewers opinion and set the bride up to think all will be a disaster or you will become a bridezilla......So un-needed and unrealistic. Remember, 95% of the weddings are carried off without a problem and here are some tips on not taking their "scenes" so personally!!


1. Hiring Your Services....and asking friends or family to complete parts of the wedding services, can lead you down an un-marked trail. Ordinarily, we review wedding services recommendations, know how long they have been in business and interview them to find out what exactly they will do and sign an agreement with dates, times and outline of services....With a family/friend, we are not as inclined to do this.....think ohhhh it will be o.k., but they can let you down - leaving you with hurt feelings regarding your wedding.


2. Family Interference In Your Wedding Plans......There is always a certain amount of input from everyone. But I find busy brides are inclined to turn over their wedding to sisters-friends and then find they are having the same wedding over and over again. Same vendors, same flowers. same...everything and pretty soon, it is not your wedding at all. If you are working with someone like this, it is vital you put the time in to say how you want it to be your wedding, your ideas and create the wedding day of YOUR dreams. Working with a professional wedding planner can help with this.


3. Asking far too much out of one or two people....This is a touchy subject. Realize they may be working full time too, live in another city, have little children, ailing parents, or not appreciate the extra stress levels. Often we consider our maid of honor to be our work horse, and there are some things we do not have to ask her to do. I have seen movies where the wedding planner or maid of honor completing a bridal registry.....she and the groom need to accomplish this. Everything asked for takes an element of time and organization to get it done. Exhaustion and resentment can set in for these people.


4. Taking the nervousness and bridal stress out on others and not taking it to the gym. This can lead to lost relationships and sometimes lost grooms. Lots to learn here to stay out of the bridezilla factor.


5. Understanding the larger the wedding and reception, the more help you will need - especially the day of. This is where odd mistakes can occur. Flowers left in the sun because no one was there for the delivery. Reception set up taking much more time than you have. People not told what time and where to come for the rehearsal.....and on and on.


While there may be a concern or two on a wedding day. Understand the movies and TV shows are there to show - over reactions and over-state problems that might occur. You can quickly upgrade the look and feel of your reception with use of quality table linens.

Visually we see this table from many parts of the room. When the legs of a table show, it distracts from the cake's beauty. White works well, but if you have bright colors on the cake, you can select one of the shades for the cloth you use.

2. The Head Table. So often we see feet legs and purses under the table if it is not clothed to the floor. Consider the view and rent the linens if you do not own them.
